Abstract
In the last decade, Brazil has seen accelerated growth in commercial mussel farming in
the state of Santa Catarina. However, similar technological and industrial development has not
accompanied this evolution, and the processes used are still highly dependent on human labor.
In order to solve this problem, this study proposes a product family design for the mechanization
of the main processes performed during mussel farming and processing. To achieve this, a design
methodology of modular products was used to create nine main modules, which, when combined,
allow for the production of eight different products.
